DESCRIPTION:In this delightful stage adaptation\, Roald Dahl’s classic tale is faithfully told by James himself\, along with the insect characters – Miss Spider\, Old-Green-Grasshopper\, Centipede\, Ladybird\, and Earthworm. The play begins at the end of the story\, when James and his friends are living in the giant peach stone in Central Park\, New York.\nA tour guide brings a party of tourists (the audience) to see this major attraction\, and James and his friends tell the story of how they came to live in New York. The insects play the other roles\, like James’s cruel Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker\, and the epic journey across the Atlantic is acted out with live action\, puppetry and storytelling in David Wood’s masterful adaptation. \nArts One Presents is all about sparking creativity\, building confidence\, and helping young people grow through the magic of the arts. Our Youth Driven Theatre Program (YDT) gives youth the chance to dive into the exciting world of theatre—from center stage to behind the scenes. This year\, we’re bringing James and the Giant Peach to life\, and it’s all powered by young talent! \nWhether it’s acting\, directing\, designing sets\, running lights and sound\, or managing backstage chaos—youth take the lead in every part of the production. It’s not just about putting on a show (though that’s pretty awesome too); it’s about learning real-world skills\, working as a team\, and having a blast while doing it. With YDT\, the spotlight is on creativity\, collaboration\, and making theatre magic—by youth\, for everyone.
