SUMMARY:America 250: Common Threads
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, the United States will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. America 250: Common Threads will both commemorate the events of 1776 and reflect on 250 years of American art and civic participation. An early engraving of the Declaration of Independence will anchor a group of historic documents displayed alongside textiles\, paintings\, toys\, and other works from 1776 to the present. The exhibition considers how artists and national leaders document American history. America 250: Common Threads explores how American artists historically foster civic participation and strengthen community relationships.   \nVisitors will experience how people have celebrated national and personal moments in history\, from a display of hundreds of 20th century patriotic snapshots to souvenirs collected from America’s Centennial in 1876. The exhibition explores the symbols artists turn to when celebrating or commenting on the United States: George Washington’s many faces\, eagles appearing across books\, baskets\, and coverlets\, flags seen as quilts or as documentation of the moon landing\, and more. Contemporary artists featured in the exhibition\, such as Robert Colescott\, Kay WalkingStick\, and Howard Finster\, continue to revisit national symbols and explore their resonance.   \n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition will also feature live quilting\, as local quilters and quilting guilds work in the galleries to piece quilt squares made by K-12 students across Arkansas and designed by artist Basil Kincaid.

SUMMARY:The Prison Concerts: Folsom And San Quentin (Jim Marshall’s Photographs Of Johnny Cash)
DESCRIPTION:Widely known as the godfather of music photography\, the late Jim Marshall maintained a 50-year career that resulted in more than 500 album covers\, an abundance of magazine covers\, and some of the most celebrated images in blues\, jazz\, country\, and rock and roll\, including those from Johnny Cash’s notable Folsom and San Quentin prison concerts. Organized by the GRAMMY Museum\, The Prison Concerts: Folsom and San Quentin (Jim Marshall’s Photographs of Johnny Cash) showcases these powerful snapshots of a legendary musician by a legendary photographer. \nThe exhibition is comprised of 25 photographs documenting the two concerts in 1968 and 1969\, including candid and performance images that helped solidify Cash’s status as an outlaw king. A staunch advocate for prisoners’ rights\, Cash did these concerts to shine a light on the terrible conditions and prisoner abuse that were rampant at the time. Personally requested by Cash himself\, Marshall was the only official photographer present at the concerts. He was granted unlimited access to Cash\, June Carter\, and their entourage. \nThe Prison Concerts captures the spirit of two artists at the height of their creative powers. \nFree\, no tickets required.

SUMMARY:Ozark Folk Jamboree at Railyard Live
DESCRIPTION:Live recording and syndication provided by Ozark Highlands Radio \nArkansauce calls forth melodies of the Ozark Mountains’ rolling hills and raging rivers with their distinct blend of newgrass. This progressive string quartet features Tom Andersen on bass\, guitarist Zac Archuleta\, Ethan Bush on mandolin\, and Adams Collins on banjo. Their music features improvisational string leads matched with complex melodies\, intriguing rhythms\, and deep thumping bass grooves. Each member sings lead and harmony parts as well as contributes to the lyrics\, which offer authentic\, intelligent songwriting with hard-hitting hooks. \nMusic Mecca’s Spencer Nachman calls them a “fiery\, finger-picking string band… What is apparent at any Arkansauce show is their positivity and desire to uplift the audience’s spirit\, no matter the circumstance.” \nThey are a band inspired not only from their home state of Arkansas\, but also throughout their travels. “We are a band that spends most of our time in the back of a van hurtling toward long nights\, good times\, and a destiny unknown\,” says Ethan. “Our inspiration is gathered by events unfolding in our own adventures in real time. These days\, the desire to create\, inspire\, and redefine within our scene seems to be the main driving force behind our music. From a young age we were huge fans of live music and were introduced to a lot of great music by our families.” \nArkansauce independently released their 5th album\, OK to Wonder\, on April 21\, 2023. With 11 original tracks—ranging from upbeat and stimulating to contemplative and encouraging—the collection is filled with songs of revelry\, wonder\, insight\, and whimsy.
