About
Ozark Folkways traces its roots back to 1969 when it began as a folk-arts center in Winslow, Arkansas — originally based in what is known as the Muxen Building. Over time, the organization expanded beyond the hills into city spaces. Today they operate from two historical locations: the original Muxen Building in Winslow and the historic Walker-Stone House in downtown Fayetteville.
Throughout its history the organization has offered a wide variety of activities: hands-on workshops in crafts (fiber arts, pottery, woodworking, etc.), music jams and concerts, dance and square-dance events, nature and folk-tradition gatherings such as foraging walks, culinary and herb-gardening classes, communal meals, and festivals.
These offerings reflect a commitment not merely to preserve static artifacts of “folklore,” but to sustain living traditions: songs, stories, folk skills, community gatherings, intergenerational learning, and shared cultural expression.
