The Famous Hardware Store

Located at 113 West Emma Avenue, Famous Hardware art installations began in 2021 as a way to make art accessible to the Springdale community and create new experiences for people visiting the city’s downtown. Each installation will be visible from the sidewalk in front of the Famous Hardware building and are explained in English, Spanish and Marshallese.

Famous Hardware Store curations are a partnership between CACHE and the Downtown Springdale Alliance, with funding support from the Tyson Family Foundation.

Hierbitas de Saberes

Spring 2023

It is said that botanical diversity in Mexico is the result of the physical complexity of the land and many of the medicinal plants first used in pre-Hispanic civilization are still in use. We know about them thanks to the Libellus de Medicinalibus Indorum Herbis (1552), commonly referred to as the Cruz-Badiano codex; a guide to the medicinal plants used in Mexico to cure ailments before the arrival of the Spaniards. The Cruz-Badiano codex is considered the oldest medical text crafted in the Americas. Blanka Amezkua’s hope is that with Hierbitas de saberes we reconsider the infinite ways our collective past can continue to nurture and cure our present.

The Body Overwhelms

Inspired by processes inside the human body and organisms in our natural environment, sculptor and educator Nicole Banowetz has created a magnified petri dish of organic forms, overwhelming the front windows of the Famous Hardware Store in Downtown Springdale.

Pony Gate

August – November 2022

Driven by questions regarding links between identity and childhood, visual artist Amelia Briggs transformed the windows of the Famous Hardware Store into an uncanny dream of lush embodiments. Pony Gate acts as a series of dioramas, each window operating as a model, animating the indescribable nature of our formative selves and our personal mythologies.

November 2022 – February 2023

Come By invites you to explore the emotional terrain of our community. Fitting together like a puzzle, each panel presents the silhouette of a person living in this region; a symbol for the way that each member of this community holds different parts of this region’s history.

Ledger Bentonville

Through this partnership, CACHE and the team at Ledger—a newly erected co-working space in Downtown Bentonville—selected 35 Northwest Arkansas-based artists with varied mediums who will each outfit a designated area of the building including common spaces, nooks, and meeting rooms. This living art collaboration is a true reflection of Downtown Bentonville and the opportunity for Ledger to be a creative landscape for the community.
