He has presented work at the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum, Performa 15, Danspace Project, The Chocolate Factory Theater, High Line Art, REDCAT, the 10th Berlin Biennale, and the Hessel Museum at Bard College.

Yvette Mayorga is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. The intricate worlds she manufactures in her work respond to utopian visions of immigration and belonging. These narratives intervene in art history and take form through a fusion of Rococo iconography, contemporary images of militarization, confectionary aesthetics, and consumer objects. Her practice is shaped by her experience as a first-generation Latinx artist and her parents’ migration from Jalisco, Mexico to the US. The sumptuous and excessive decoration that marks her projects is inspired by the domestic and colonial religious spaces she navigated transnationally as an adolescent.
She holds an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at the Vincent Price Art Museum; DePaul Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio, the Center for Craft, the Museo Universitario del Chopo, LACMA’s Pacific Standard Time:LA/LA, NXTHVN, Art Design Chicago, the Chicago Artists Coalition, GEARY Contemporary, EXPO, Felix and Untitled Art Fair. In 2020 her project, Meet me at the Green Clock, was commissioned by Johalla Projects as part of the exhibition Andy Warhol–From A to B and Back Again, at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work was included in the critically acclaimed exhibition ESTAMOS BIEN: LA TRIENAL 20/21, El Museo del Barrio’s inaugural survey of contemporary Latinx art. Mayorga is currently working on a new large-scale commission for the City of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 5 Expansion public art project opening in 2022.
Yvette Mayorga: What a Time to be will be on view in the Lobby Gallery and Gallery 1.

It’s 1990 in Northwest Arkansas and big dreams are in the air. The region’s famous, family-owned companies have risen to join the ranks of the wealthiest corporations in the world. Their success will soon go on to transform the Ozarks in ways few could ever imagine.
The Big Free Picture is a multi-disciplinary portrait of a working-class family swept up in the excitement. A humorous, yet complex moment of truth is captured in this unique family photo taken at the local Ramada Inn.
Using photography, storytelling, song, video, and performance, this installation wrestles with the nature of living across the tracks from the American dream. Through the deconstruction and reconstruction of the portrait, Rumwolf explores assorted histories and possible futures tied to both his story and to the story of the region. The audience is invited to listen to the score, read the short story behind the family photo, and join the artist in a series of live activations throughout the exhibition.
Free, no tickets required.
Rumwolf [b. 1981] is a multi-disciplinary visual installation artist, musician and filmmaker based in the Ozarks. His practice focuses on the relationship between art, emotion, and technology expressed through themes of humor, pop culture, and nostalgia. Rumwolf is a 2023 artist-in-residence at the Momentary.
The Big Free Picture is organized and curated by Cynthia Post Hunt, Curator of Performance.

A compact creativity festival in the Lower Ramble.
The free events will run from 5-7 p.m. each Friday and will include live music, visual artists and other entertainment.
The city is collaborating with the University of Arkansas Department of Music for the events, which will include a lineup of local musicians from classical ensembles to jazz quartets.
“The music department is thrilled to be part of this series and to explore the possibilities for Fayetteville’s fabulous artistic corridor, providing a unique blend of styles and genres that reflect the high level of artistic collaboration and excellence on campus,” said Alan Gosman, an associate professor at the university who is curating the music for the events.
The performances will feature UA faculty members and students, along with collaborators from throughout the region and country.
While arriving via the Razorback Greenway trail is encouraged, parking is also available at the Fayetteville Public Library’s south surface parking lot, as well as on-street parking along West Avenue.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the performances.

Join textile artist Olivia Clanton for an in-depth exploration in Indigo surface design techniques! Students will learn how to make and sustain a natural indigo vat and create six traditional Shibori patterns, an ancient Japanese resist dye technique. Olivia will walk students through several designs and examples of each before being set free to create designs of your own. After students complete their sample swatches, students will get two cotton bandanas or tea towels to experiment their favorite technique with. You may also bring one small item of your own to experiment with, which must be of a natural fiber, preferably cotton- no bigger than a t-shirt. Think about an item of clothing that is stained or lack luster!
Dye aprons will be provided (unless you want to join the blue hands club). There may be some drips so be sure to wear something you wouldn’t mind getting some dye on.
All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.

Eureka Springs opens its artistic heart to the public for Open Studios, offering a rare glimpse into the creative sanctuaries of 12 local artists and makers. For two days only, Open Studios Eureka Springs will allow art enthusiasts to meet, engage, and observe these talented individuals in their working studios, a privilege not typically available to the general public.
This unique event, held October 14-15th, will showcase the vibrant diversity of our local art scene, covering a range of mediums from painting and sculpture to woodworking and ceramics. Attendees will have the chance to explore the artist and maker studios, converse with the creators, and may even find a distinctive work of art to call their own.
Open Studios Eureka Springs is a unique opportunity to delve into the creative process and experience firsthand the passion and skill that goes into each piece of art. Jacqueline Wolven, the Executive Director, notes, “This event allows our local artists to share their creativity and provides the public with an intimate look into their artistic journey. It’s an opportunity to connect, engage, and support our talented local artists and makers.”
Beginning at 125 Spring Street, ticketholders will embark on a creative journey into artists and makers studios throughout Eureka Springs. This event is not just a tour; it’s a curated experience designed to champion Eureka Springs’ thriving artist and maker scene.
This bespoke Open Studios tour is more than an art event; it’s a fundraiser supporting Main Street Eureka Springs supporting OZ INC – Northwest Arkansas’s Artist and Maker Business Incubator.
Tickets for Open Studios are on sale now at MainStreetEurekaSprings.org. Don’t miss the chance to engage with the artists, immerse in the local art scene, and support Main Street Eureka Springs. Mark your calendars, and prepare to be inspired by the wealth of talent that thrives in Eureka Springs.

Join textile artist Olivia Clanton and learn the beautiful art of natural dyeing with fresh & dried flowers and other seasonal vegetation! We will experiment with over-dyeing, the process of dipping dyed fabric in an indigo vat, altering colors based on PH levels. Students will learn how to create a wide variety of colors on fabric using natural plants such as marigold, osage, black hollyhock, cochineal bugs and indigo.
Each participant will have everything they need to create two silk bandanas and will leave the class with confidence in natural dye concepts such as mordanting, identifying fibers, color interactions with indigo, over-dye and bundle dye.
All class participants receive 15% off of any purchase made at Hillfolk on the day of the workshop.

Maker Faire NWA 2023 will take place on October 21st from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Fayetteville Public Library.
Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.
We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Glimpse the future and get inspired!
Is there a better community for a Maker Faire than Northwest Arkansas? The folks here at the Fayetteville Public Library certainly think not.
With our robust community of artists, makers, performers, and tinkerers Maker Faire NWA is a huge event from 2022 to beyond. Through Maker Faire NWA, we are aiming to bring together the best that our region has to offer for a weekend of sharing, showcasing, and fun for all ages. Not sure where to begin making? Come by and visit the newly expanded library and our state-of-the-art JB and Johnelle Hunt Family Center for Innovation; complete with a fabrication and robotics lab, audio & video recording studios, and so much more!
Maker Faire originated in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area as a project of the editors of Make: magazine. It has since grown into a significant worldwide network of both flagship and independently-produced events.

New Class at the Art Gallery at the NWA Mall!
Scratchboard art has a look all its own. The white paper is coated with black and the artists use a scratch tool to draw into the black creating white lines. The artist draws the highlights instead of the shading. Artists use a variety of marks to create the light and details. It’s a lot fun!
The first part of the class your teacher, Gallery Artist Dustin Miller, will demonstrate various marks you can make on scratchboard and how to create the sense of form. Students will have time to practice these techniques and make some discoveries on their own.
Then students will have time to create their own scratchboard drawing. If you want you can bring printed images to work with on your scratchboard or you can draw ideas in class.
Dustin will demonstrate how to transfer your image to the scratchboard and how to get started scratching in the light. He will guide students as needed as they work on their scratchboard.

Watercolor Class
Have you ever wondered how to start in watercolors? Join us Sunday, October 22 at 2pm for a beginning watercolor class. All levels of skill welcome and no drawing skills required! For ages 16 and up.
This class will focus on the fluid nature of watercolor. We will learn how watercolor can mix and mingle on paper to create effects like no other art medium. We will also learn how to set up your art workspace, prepare the paper and paints for painting. Watch a demo on the technique called wet on wet and see examples of how to use that technique in paintings. Then create your own paintings under the guidance of Diane Stinebaugh. Diane has been painting and teaching watercolor for over 20 years.
All supplies are provided by the Art Gallery. You are welcome to bring your own.
