A local group will host an event next week to provide information to voters about the upcoming bond referendum.

The League of Women Voters of Washington County will host a forum on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Crisis Brewing, located at 210 S. Nelson Hackett Blvd., in Fayetteville.

The forum will include an overview and Q&A session with Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn, who will discuss the city’s proposal for $375.5 million in projects across nine bond issues.

Approval of any of the issues would not impose a new tax. Using bonds to pay for capital projects over several years is a common practice for cities in Arkansas. The city has had a 1-cent sales tax to pay off bond debt for many years. The money can only be used for capital projects and not ongoing operational expenses, such as staff salaries.

Election day for the bond election is Tuesday, March 3.
