Did you know September is Gospel Music Heritage Month? Gospel Music Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States to recognize and honor the rich history, cultural significance, and impact of gospel music on American society. Gospel music is a genre deeply rooted in African American spiritual traditions and has played a significant role in shaping American music and culture.
The month-long celebration typically includes various events, performances, concerts, workshops, and educational programs aimed at showcasing the history and diversity of gospel music. It’s an opportunity to not only celebrate the music itself but also to acknowledge the artists, musicians, composers, and communities that have been a part of the gospel music tradition.
Gospel Music Heritage Month is a recognition of the cultural and musical legacy that gospel music represents, and it provides a platform to preserve, share, and pass down this musical heritage to future generations. It also serves as a reminder of the power of music to unite people and inspire positive change.
Come celebrate this great American art form and one of the pillars of black roots music. Come enjoy a spirited night showcasing a local community choir directed by 2021 Grammy Winning Educator of the Year, Dr. Jeffrey Allen Murdock from the University of Arkansas. This concert will feature award winning Gospel Artist Lamar Campbell, Chrystal Rucker, and The Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir. Harold Wade Jr will open the show. Bring families and friends!
