Event Details

Experience some of the most iconic concert films ever made as you dance, sing along, or sit back with a drink and enjoy the music. Each month, we’re presenting a new film featuring the best artists of our lifetime and beyond, bringing the unparalleled energy of their legendary live performances to the big screen in our state-of-the-art black box theater, Fermentation Hall.

This month, we’re celebrating Black History Month Black with Summer of Soul (2021). Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is an American independent documentary film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. It offers a sharp and satirical critique of the media’s lack of coverage of civil rights activism and the reality of change and revolution taking place in the streets and on campuses across America.

Featuring legendary performers such as Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, the 5th Dimension, the Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mavis Staples, Blinky Williams, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Chambers Brothers, Summer of Soul is considered by many as one of the best films of the 2020s.
