ABOUT:
On the eve of her performance at a community festival, Indigo Blume falls asleep, nervous and unsure of herself. She wakes up in a dream world with the characters of her favorite book, Acoustic Rooster and his Barnyard Band. Dairy Parton and Chickee Minaj are rehearsing, and they invite Indigo to join the group! When a storm destroys their barn, can Indigo help the band save their home? And will she find her voice in time for the festival? Two beloved children’s books by Kwame Alexander come to life on stage!
Tickets are $10: >> bit.ly/RoosterBoogie

Paul Haas – In saecula saeculorum
Trevor New – Cohere I
Trevor New, viola and electronics
Johannes Brahms – Symphony No. 3
For the first time ever, SoNA is releasing a full-length album with great new music that blends acoustic and electric sounds, as well as virtual and “in real life” performances by our orchestra and special guest soloists and ensembles from around the world. Featuring music by composers Ray Lustig, Trevor New, and SoNA Music Director Paul Haas. And to celebrate this release, we’re featuring all of these pieces in a live performance, with virtual tie-ins to multiple international locations. After the intermission, we raise the roof with the joyously beautiful Symphony No. 3 in F Major by Johannes Brahms: truly one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever written. This concert shows SoNA’s commitment to the past, present, and future of music with ‘New Canons’ and beloved time-honored ones as well.

SoNA is busy expanding the definition of what an orchestra is, so who’s to say we can’t go head to head with a venerable jazz band?! We team up with the Fayetteville Jazz Collective for Battle of the Bands to create a hybrid orchestra + jazz band that is greater than the sum of its parts. We’ll alternate between pieces played by the jazz band, pieces played by the orchestra, and then pieces played together, for an evening of genre-defying music that will be enjoyed by a wide variety of music lovers. Join us for this incredible collaboration and an evening of fun, engaging, and unexpected music.

Aaron Copland – Symphony No. 3
In memory of Sara Sharp
Part of SoNA’s mission is to uncover music that has been historically and unjustifiably ignored by the classical music world. SoNA is excited to present a pulse-raising performance of Chickasaw Nation composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s Chokfi (Rabbit), which is a musical sketch of the Trickster character in Southeastern Indian folklore, scored for strings and percussion. Solo pianist Angela Cheng joins us for Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain: a steamy, sultry, summery excursion into three different Spanish scenes, each popping with character, romance, and intrigue. Rounding out this eclectic program is Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3, justifiably referred to by those in the know as the American symphony. Written at the end of World War II, its soaring melodies and jaunty rhythms pay homage to all the millions of anonymous men and women who contributed to the war effort – and he fittingly begins the final movement with another of his most famous works, Fanfare for the Common Man. Each of these works is a captivating storytelling of folklore: from traditional Spanish stories, to Chickasaw Nation tales, to classic Americana evocations.
