This is going to be mostly a reggae show. We’ve got talented groups Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion, The Irie Lions, and DJ HOD-I. Reggae music is MESSAGE music–conveying messages of unity, self-sufficiency and empowerment.
In response to the Maui communities affected by the wildfires, local artists Evan Diego Alvarado & Meredith Mashburn felt compelled to take action.
Why Maui?
The Maui area is tied to a documentary project that Evan and Meredith are working on together, about a convergent science project (indigenous knowledge modern science). The documentary is about the work Dr.Daniel Wildcat is leading at the Rising Voices Changing Coasts (RVCC) Hub at Haskell Indian Nations University (Lawrence, KS).
Official RVCC site: https://www.rvcchub.org
Documentary teaser trailer: https://vimeo.com/851358146?share=copy
It’s important to give the Indigenous Hawaiians in Maui a chance to decide their own destiny. Indigenous communities there are growing weary of developers trying to buy their burned homes and land at a discount, while they simply want to rebuild their homes and find a way to honor their precious ancient cultural sites. This effort aims to support recovery through data collection that can help predict and prevent future fires, and sponsor data sensors to help monitor their health as they rebuild.
About The Olohana Foundation:
The Olohana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Hawaii. They work with communities to co-build resilience and adaptation strategies to climate change through projects that intersect food, energy, water, and knowledge systems. These projects include the planting of food forests and the Breadfruit/Ulu Initiative, the creation of a youth resilience council as part of the Pacific Risk Management Ohana, conservation of Hawaii National Park Service trails, and other programs and projects that support community relationship and knowledge sharing.
Olohana’s mission is to work with communities to co-develop strategies for resilience and adaptation to climate change. Their projects and programs intersect food, energy, water, and knowledge systems and facilitate and support strengthened relationships between the generations, between cultures, and with the natural environment.
Olohana and its network of partners and collaborators focus on community-led projects at the nexus of food, energy, water, and knowledge systems and support a variety of programmatic training and learning opportunities for members of the community, teaching both cutting-edge scientific and indigenous/traditional environmental stewardship systems through the methodology of Inter-generational Transfer of Knowledge ITK™.
Their method yields tangible results while facilitating the development of strong, intergenerational, intercultural, knowledge-sharing relationships and networks across the globe; and developing and strengthening a community’s disaster preparedness, resilience and longevity in the face of climate change devastation and disaster.

The Golden Creatives invite you to a special group exhibition featuring senior artists who have left an indelible mark on the art world. This event celebrates their enduring legacies and the wisdom they have imparted through their creative journeys. We are honored to highlight the talents of four extraordinary artists starting with our honorary centenarian, Mary Talbert. Mary Talbert’s work ebodies decades of artistic evolution that comes with a lifetime of creativity. Her work is inspired by her love for Arkansas, its people and places.Terry Dushan’s art is a testament to her profound insights and innovative techniques after 35 years as a fine art photographer. Her images are both captivating and thought-provoking. Gary Johnson’s abstract watercolor creations resonate with an imaginative and dynamic perspective. His pieces invite viewers on a journey of great exploration and adventure. Helen “Bunny” Hellweg’s art is a celebration of life. Her portraiture drawings captivates the senses and speaks to the heart.
Our Golden Creatives multimedia collection reflects each of their unique visions, experiences and wisdom, inviting you on an inspiring and thought-provoking journey. Artworks displayed at the exhibition will be available for purchase, offering you the opportunity to own a part of their exceptional artistic journey. Please save the date for an unforgettable evening of art, culture, and merriment as we celebrate Mary Talbert’s Centennial birthday along with her Golden Creative friends.

JOIN US! Enter into a place of memory, of nostalgia, of deep and tender roots. Go back in time to be immersed in one child’s long ago lived experience in the world of the American Evangelical Charismatic Church, kaleidoscopically colored by the “Jesus Movement” of the 1970s. A love letter to the past and a bittersweet remembrance.
FROM THE DIRECTOR:
NOISE LEVEL, FUNDAMENTAL or SUNDAY SCHOOL IS AN IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION & PERFORMANCE THAT TAKES ON THE LOOSE STRUCTURE OF AN EVANGELICAL SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN’S CHURCH SPACE & SERVICE, COMPLETE WITH OVERSIZED PUPPETS, SONGS, AND BIBLE STORIES, AS VIEWED THROUGH THE FOND AND SOMEWHAT GLOWING YET FEAR-RIDDEN LENS OF CHILDHOOD MEMORY. SURROUNDED BY AMERICAN EVANGELICAL IMAGERY AND A COLLAGE OF EPHEMERA, VIEWERS CAN TAKE AN ACTIVE PART IN THE EVENT OR OBJECTIVELY OBSERVE FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE WALLS OF THE INSTALLATION. THEY ARE ALSO INVITED TO ADD TO THE COLLAGED WALLS, USING MATERIALS AT ART-MAKING STATIONS IN THE SPACE. THEY ARE JOINED IN THE SPACE BY AN ANONYMOUS FIGURE IN WHITE, A SILENT WITNESS. THE OBJECTS, SOUNDS, AND EXPERIENCE ARE FAMILIAR, YET UNFAMILIAR, MADE NEW BY A CHANGE OF CONTEXT AND VIEWPOINT.
NO DOUBT, THERE ARE MANY WHO WILL FIND ECHOES OF THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE WITH AMERICAN CHURCH-LIFE IN THIS PROJECT. I’M INTERESTED IN THESE PLACES OF RECOGNITION AND RESONANCE, HOPING TO BUILD A COMMUNAL DIALOGUE AND NEW UNDERSTANDING OF HOW OUR EXPERIENCES HAVE SHAPED WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE HAVE COME TO BE AT THIS STRANGE JUNCTURE IN HISTORY. THROUGH CLOSE AND HONEST EXAMINATION OF MY OWN “EX-VANGELICAL” ORIGIN STORY STEEPED IN AMERICAN CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISM, I AM ENDEAVORING TO IDENTIFY PLACES IN THE NARRATIVE WHERE THE FAMILIAR AND CHERISHED HAVE BROKEN DOWN, BECOMING POLARIZED, EXTREME, AND UNRECOGNIZABLE, WITH THE HOPE OF ALSO INVOKING EMPATHY ACROSS THE DIVIDE.
THIS PROJECT IS NEXT IN A SERIES OF WORKS ENTITLED NOISE LEVEL, IN WHICH THE ENIGMATIC CHARACTER <FIGURE A> IS INSERTED, IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE SENSE OF THE SEEMINGLY INSENSIBLE.
Made possible by the CACHE (the Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange), the Creative Exchange Fund (CXF) and the Tyson Family Foundation.
