The December 5th dance Jam will open with Contact Improv instruction from Butoh artist Lela Besom then move into an open ended dance time blending freeform movement with Contact Improvisation. Josue Garcia will create a dj set to support the dancers and expand their creative possibilities.
Contact Improv is a dance form involving physical contact and weight sharing between dancers. It utilizes balance, strength, breath, awareness and attention, and promotes relaxation and play. It was developed by Nancy Stark Smith and Steve Paxton in the 1970s and is practiced internationally.
This ongoing jam is an opportunity to play on the dance floor and explore your creative movement range. It is a supportive environment with guidelines to uphold respect, safety, and consent. Great for folks looking to leave their living room dance floor and meet other movers, for artists looking for new possibilities, and professional dancers wanting to relax and explore. This is a developing community building a dance jam from the ground up with room for ideas and collaboration!
Cost $10-15 donations to dj appreciated!
