The Hip-Hop Open Mic and Mentorship program resumes on May 7, 2024
SPRINGDALE, AR – The Medium will host the fourth season of Groundwaves, the successful hip-hop open mic and mentorship program conceived and facilitated by West Coast rapper and professional producer Murs. The first open mic night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Following each monthly open mic night, Groundwaves performers can access free, one-on-one mentorship sessions with Murs. Mentorships allow each artist to discuss their personal development, business, and growth. Groundwaves is supported by the Tyson Family Foundation.
Groundwaves nurtures, strengthens, and spotlights Northwest Arkansas hip-hop artists through a synergistic blend of live performances and mentorship.
"The local hip-hop scene is ecstatic to have Murs and his program back,” said Season 2, Session 1 artist Victor Charlie. “Groundwaves has a unique energy and magnetism; it attracts up-and-coming talent and provides a forum for artists to express themselves and display their craft.
Groundwaves launched in Colorado in 2019 and debuted in Arkansas as Groundwaves(AR) one year later. Since then, more than 100 artists have participated in the Springdale-based program, with each season featuring new talent and audiences. “When I heard Groundwaves was coming to NWA, I was unsure what to expect, said John Wayne Pharr, General Manager at The Medium. “I’ve been at every show since the debut, and I still find myself blown away by the talent and energy each performer brings.”
Rappers and MCs from the region are invited to participate in the series beginning Tuesday, May 4th. Sign-ups for the open mic nights begin at 5:00 p.m., and the public showcase starts at 6:00 p.m. One-on-one mentorship sessions with Murs are available throughout the day on the Wednesday following each open mic. Mentorship sessions are available for open-mic participants only.
The fourth season of Groundwaves will run through October 2024. All events are held at The Medium at 214 S. Main Street in Springdale. Dates include:
