CREATIVE EXCHANGE FUND
The Creative Exchange Fund (CXF) is a programming initiative promoting performing artists, artist residencies, curatorial opportunities, and music development at The Medium. In 2024, we hosted our second cohort of CXF artists.

Beatriz dos Santos Furtado Fall 2023 CXF Artist in Residence
Used her artist residency at The Medium to explore love through the lens of mother-daughter relationships. She created artificial floral arrangements on used shoes – a nod to the crafted language passed down from her grandmother; a new conceptual branch of her ceramic shoe-focused practice.
Bia Furtado is a visual artist who works primarily in ceramics. Drawn to the archival qualities of clay and its widespread significance throughout History, she uses this same material to create sculptures and environments that investigate the mythologies and absurdities intertwined within socially-constructed narratives and personal memories
Vincent Frimpong Winter 2024 CXF Artist in Residence
Completed an 11-foot by 8-foot sculpture of sewn road signs, one installation piece for his thesis at the University of Arkansas. Vincent's goal was to surround studio visitors with his culture, allowing them to see his influences. It was important for him to share his pride as an African artist.
Vincent Frimpong is a ceramic artist born in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. He holds an M.F.A from the University of Arkansas and a B.A. in Industrial Arts (Ceramics option) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.
Megan Pobywajlo Winter 2024 CXF Artist in Residence
Artist Megan Pobywajlo digitizes local counter-cultural newspapers, newsletters, and ephemera. In her time at The Medium, she remixed this archival material using a combination of photography, risograph, cut/paste, and digital print processes, working towards creating an immersive and educational ‘people’s history’ of Arkansas.
Megan Pobywajlo is an artist and researcher raised in San Diego, transplanted to Kansas City, and currently working in the Arkansas Ozarks. She has worked as an arts organizer, educator, publisher, and photographer. Her current research revolves around DIY community care and the political ideologies and contributions of counter-cultural publishers in the Ozarks. She has taught at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, the Kansas City Art Institute, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and has led numerous workshops online and in-person elsewhere.
Maria Pineda Fall 2023 CXF Artist in Residence
Maria Pineda created a series of multi-scale mixed media drawings based on her personal experiences and featuring cultural themes and visuals that are relevant to her identity as a Latinx artist. The drawings explored the iconicity of Mexican and Mexican-American food items and the architectural landscape of her immigrant parent’s hometown of Acambaro, Mexico.
”As an early-stage artist, I have often gotten caught up in wondering, 'What am I going to make?'. The CXF program gives you time to develop. My project has turned into so much more than I ever thought it could be.

Groundwaves
In 2024, the Groundwaves Arkansas concluded. Groundwaves began in 2019 in Colorado, before expanding into Northwest Arkansas as a four-year program to develop our region's hip-hop artists. Led by rapper and mentor Murs, NWA MCs, beatmakers, and hip hop enthusiasts have developed a community of mutual support and growth while honing their craft. In four years time, members of the cohort have performed at the Happiness Of Pursuit Festival in California several times, produced full length albums and collaborative projects, and opened for Big Boi and Run the Jewels at the Momentary. Although the program has come to it's conclusion, Murs has left an indelible mark on Northwest Arkansas' hip-hop artists' lives and careers. View below a snapshot of the program's milestones below.

Red Ball Project
In September, the Municipal Arts Alliance concluded with a region-wide art project: bringing the Redball Project to Northwest Arkansas. The red ball went on a whirlwind tour through five towns in five days. MIXD Gallery in Rogers hosted an exhibition of the collages and photographic edition prints from the performance, and 21c Museum Hotel in Bentonville hosted an artist talk and panel. The tour made it's NWA debut at MIXD Gallery and continued through Siloam Springs, Fayetteville, Springdale, and Bentonville.

WHY TULSA? We believe that the health of an arts ecosystem depends on our ability to retain and attract talent but also create exchanges and exposure for those who live and work in our community. We’ve seen Northwest Arkansans and Tulsans travel back and forth for the arts. We are building upon a foundation that has already been set.
Artists Creative Fund
The Artists Creative Fund provides 20 project-specific awards of $10,000 each to a diverse group of artists to test ideas, explore collaborations, and build skills as they create new work. The program's first year finished in April.

Bringing the Arts Together
As one of our core pillars of work, CACHE is dedicated to convening our region's arts and culture industry.
In 2024, we continued our popular professional development series, YOLO, while also holding our first in person communications conference, CommsCon, and launching two new programs designed to bring the arts community together, Social Hour and Table Talks.
