THIS BITTER EARTH
by Harrison David Rivers

Studio On The Block invites you to experience the powerful and timely drama, THIS BITTER EARTH! This gripping play plunges you into the intimate world of Jesse, a Black playwright, and Neil, his white boyfriend and a passionate Black Lives Matter activist. Their deep love is challenged as political realities, race, and class collide, forcing them to confront questions of activism, apathy, and the courage it takes to love out loud. Described as romantic and devastating, THIS BITTER EARTH is a must-see theatre production that asks: What is the real cost of standing on the sidelines? Don’t miss this thought-provoking exploration of contemporary relationships and social justice.

Studio On The Block’s production of THIS BITTER EARTH directly supports Trey Smith-Mills and his personal artistic project. As an artist, he came to us with the play and asked us to help assemble a team and to fully produce the show while keeping his work focused on being an actor in the production. As a queer and bipoc play, it was important to him that we produce this show the weekend leading up to the Northwest Arkansas Pride Parade. Studio On The Block works to remove the barriers that often prevent creative work from happening by helping artists access space, funding, production support, and collaborative networks.
