New York City-based painter selected for the next art installation

Springdale, AR – The windows of the Famous Hardware building in Downtown Springdale will be activated with art once more. This time the windows will be brought to life by the artist Blanka Amezkua who was commissioned by CACHE with funding from the Tyson Family Foundation.

Blanka Amezkua is a painter, cultural promoter, educator, and project creator based in New York City. She has held exhibitions across the country and abroad at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, San Diego Art Institute, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, and Art Base Brussels among others. Her creative practice is greatly influenced and informed by folk art and popular culture—from papel picado to comic books.

Hierbitas de saberes (Tiny herbs of knowledge), is an art installation that shares the joy of the arrival of spring and brings to life the rich botanical diversity in Mexico. The installation features the flower illustrations found inside the Codex de la Cruz-Badiano, the oldest medical text crafted in the Americas. The codex is a guide to the medicinal plants used to cure ailments before the arrival of the Spaniards in Mexico. This fascinating installation is vibrant in color, rich in history and tells an important story of how nature can nurture and help to cure our present ailments.

#Famoushardware art installations, which began at the beginning of 2021 have featured a variety of artists from across the county. Information about each of the artists and their work can be found on our website, here.
