CXF Mixtape Music Series with Music in Common

June 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Mixtape Music series featuring Music in Common:

“The Black Legacy Project is a musical celebration of Black history to advance racial harmony, bridge-building, and partnership. A movement of music and human connection, Black LP aims to bridge divides and prevent hate.

Developed in the summer of 2020 in response to the growing polarization and violence surrounding the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, Black LP has traveled the country curating experiences for people across race to find common ground through music and conversation. The sharing of stories, histories, lived experiences, and songs inspires Black LP participants to walk in the shoes of “the other”. To date, 24 songs have been recorded in the project, released on two albums, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Music in Common is a genre-fluid trio, blending Americana, Soul, and Hip-Hop into captivating performances that promote hope and unity. The show will open with the world premiere screening of the Black LP documentary film, featuring local musicians from around the country including NWA. Integrating music, multimedia, storytelling, and spoken word, audiences journey through history with songs that have been reimagined and original works that speak to the current state of Black-White race relations in the U.S., highlighting the power of music as a force for human connection and social change.”
