About
It all began with an idea. In March of 2022 a local Mall asked a question on its social media: Would local artists be interested in exhibiting their art in a free space donated by the Mall? The Mall, run by Mason Asset Management, invited interested artists to attend an informational meeting to discuss it. A group of local artists came to the meeting. They learned the Mall would donate space for them to exhibit if they would organize themselves, manage the gallery’s day to day logistics, and structure things in such a way as to ensure the local Community could benefit from art related interactions. Our 501(c)(3) Non Profit Community arts center opened in June, 2022.
The Art Gallery at the NWA Mall operated during the 2000s–early 2010s as a collaborative, nonprofit-supported initiative. It was affiliated at various times with local arts advocates and organizations working to expand exhibition opportunities in Northwest Arkansas.
The Art Gallery at the NWA Mall is notable for:
- Introducing art to people who might not otherwise visit galleries
- Providing low-barrier exhibition opportunities for emerging artists
- Serving as a bridge between commerce and culture
- Demonstrating that art could thrive in unconventional spaces
For many local artists, it offered their first public exhibition experience.
