About
The LatinX Theatre Project (LXTP) began in 2016 and 2017 when a small group of friends in Springdale, Arkansas gathered after school to write, share poetry, create scenes, and tell stories. Their goal was to build a space where their voices could be heard and where young artists from under-represented communities could express themselves freely. What started as a short experiment quickly connected with audiences, and the group chose to continue creating work together. This early momentum helped LXTP grow into a year-round ensemble that produces original theatre pieces shaped by the perspectives and experiences of its members.
LXTP has since developed a strong catalog of original plays. Their work has appeared annually in the Arkansas New Play Festival beginning in 2017, and the ensemble has continued to explore new topics and artistic styles through both live and digital productions. Throughout its development, LXTP has received support from TheatreSquared, which provides artistic and production infrastructure that allows the company to expand its reach and refine its craft. Additional leadership funding from the Walton Family Foundation has also supported LXTP since 2017.
LXTP serves artists of many backgrounds, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and disabled creators. Its rehearsal room functions as a safe and collaborative environment where artists at any stage of their journey can develop their skills. The company offers workshops in writing, devised theatre, and performance for participants of all ages and experience levels. These workshops help community members create their own poetry, monologues, scenes, and songs, which makes LXTP a place where both performers and storytellers can grow.
LXTP continues to build work that responds to social issues, reflects the stories of its community, and invites audiences to take part in meaningful conversations. Through performances, educational programs, and partnerships with supporters throughout Northwest Arkansas, the company remains dedicated to uplifting voices that are too often overlooked and to making theatre accessible to everyone.
