Mission

The mission of Mid-America Arts Alliance is to partner with and support artists, cultural organizations, and communities to expand access to the arts, culture, and creativity across our region.

About

Mid-America Arts Alliance was founded in 1972 by civic leaders from four Midwestern states who wanted to improve access to arts and creativity for people throughout the Mid-America region. Their belief was that the arts could have greater reach and influence through collaborative partnerships.

As the nation’s first regional arts organization, M-AAA has spent more than fifty years working to support artists, cultural organizations, and communities in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and beyond. In its early years, M-AAA’s work included bringing touring artists such as symphonies and ballet companies to the region and organizing traveling exhibitions.

Over time, M-AAA expanded its scope: awarding grants to both individual artists and arts organizations, supporting professional development, creating and curating traveling exhibitions, and building programs that reach rural and urban communities alike. To date, M-AAA has awarded more than $51 million in grants to over 18,000 artists and cultural organizations, and engaged nearly 83 million children and adults in meaningful arts experiences.

Today, M-AAA continues its work with a broad array of programs: grants and fellowships, touring exhibitions, professional development workshops, partnerships with state arts agencies, and initiatives to ensure arts accessibility, inclusion, and community engagement across its region. M-AAA remains dedicated to elevating the region’s creative assets, engaging diverse communities, and making the arts accessible and relevant to all.
