Mission

NWA Ballet Theatre’s mission is to inspire a lasting love and appreciation for the art of classical and contemporary ballet throughout Northwest Arkansas by combining artistic excellence in dance with innovative choreography and distinctive costuming. The company is committed to presenting performances that honor the dignity, talent, and creative spirit of each dancer.

About

NWA Ballet Theatre was founded in 2011 by Margie Bordovsky, Mariah Bordovsky, and the late Peggie Wallis. The founders created the company to offer professional level ballet opportunities within Northwest Arkansas so dancers could pursue high quality training and performance without needing to leave the region. They also wanted local audiences to have access to live ballet close to home.

From its early years the company produced full length classical ballets such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, along with original works featuring contemporary choreography. NWABT also served as guest artists for regional productions and steadily expanded its presence throughout the area.
As the company grew it began taking ballet into nontraditional settings. NWABT performed in parks, libraries, and community spaces in order to make ballet accessible to people who might not attend traditional theaters. The company also increased its educational outreach, offering programs that introduce youth and adults to dance.

In 2017 NWABT appointed its first Artistic Director, Ryan Jolicoeur Nye, who helped shape the company’s blend of classical technique and modern choreography. In 2022 the role passed to Stephen Wynne, an internationally experienced choreographer who is guiding the company toward continued artistic development, community engagement, and long term sustainability.

Today NWA Ballet Theatre is recognized as a leader in professional concert dance in Northwest Arkansas. The company continues to build local talent, collaborate with regional partners, and present performances that highlight both classical tradition and contemporary creativity.
