Mission

Northwest Arkansas Equality exists to provide programs, education, and advocacy to serve, connect, and empower the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community in Northwest Arkansas. The organization works to build safe and inclusive spaces, support community health and wellness, and foster equality for LGBTQ individuals and families across the region.

About

NWA Equality was founded in 2006 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for a grassroots community and advocacy organization for LGBTQ people in Benton and Washington counties. The organization gained official nonprofit status in 2007.

Originally operating under the name Northwest Arkansas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Community Center, the group later became the NWA Center for Equality before evolving into what is now Northwest Arkansas Equality. In 2015 the organization merged with the local Pride Parade organization to unify resources and community efforts under one umbrella.

Over the years, NWA Equality has grown into a central resource for LGBTQ people throughout the region. The organization operates the Arthur Beeghly LGBTQ Resource Center and offers a variety of services including free HIV and STI testing, peer support groups for adults and youth, veteran support, and education and wellness programs. They also host social events, community outreach, and cultural programming to foster connection and belonging.

Each summer NWA Equality produces Northwest Arkansas Pride, the state’s largest LGBTQ celebration, bringing together community members, allies, and supporters for visibility, celebration, and advocacy. Through health services, peer support, advocacy, and inclusive community building, NWA Equality continues to be a regional voice for equality, inclusion, and support.
