Mission: The Ozark Music Initiative is a nonprofit arts organization based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, focused on music education, performance, and community engagement in the Ozark region. It was founded in 2024 with the goal of enriching the cultural landscape of Northwest Arkansas through accessible music programs and professional-level performance opportunities.
Ozark Music Initiative
Mission & Vision
OMI’s mission is to cultivate community through music education and performance. It aims to:
Provide affordable, high-quality music education for students and young musicians.
Connect pre-professional musicians with world-class artists through mentorship and performance.
Strengthen the cultural life of the region through concerts, workshops, and festival experiences that are inclusive and accessible to all.
Key Programs & Events
Ozark Music Festival
The centerpiece of the Initiative is the Ozark Music Festival, a year-round chamber music academy and summer orchestral training program. It brings together professional musicians and students for intensive training and performances in venues across Northwest Arkansas.
The festival features concerts in traditional venues (e.g., concert halls, libraries, museums) as well as community-centric spaces like coffee shops and parks to connect broader audiences with live music.
Performances include orchestral concerts, chamber music, educational events, and creative experiences such as “Inside Out,” where audiences can sit with the orchestra and observe rehearsals.
Community & Cultural Impact
OMI helps create opportunities for musicians of all backgrounds to learn, perform, and engage with audiences throughout Northwest Arkansas.
The organization emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and artistic excellence as core values.
It also builds on the legacy of classical music training programs in Arkansas — notably evolving from the tradition of the Hot Springs Music Festival, which closed in 2024 after nearly three decades. The OMI festival aims to carry forward that mission in a new setting.
