About

Founded in 1947, the UARK Theatre has grown into one of Arkansas’s most respected theatre departments. The department originally offered general drama coursework, later expanding into a full Bachelor of Arts and then Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs.

  • High-quality stage productions
  • Training actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and scholars
  • Supporting regional arts and local talent

The MFA Playwriting Program, founded in the 1990s, became nationally recognized and has produced multiple award-winning playwrights.

In recent years, the department has strengthened ties with:

  • TheatreSquared
  • Walton Arts Center
  • Northwest Arkansas’s growing arts scene
