SPRINGDALE, Ark. — CACHE announces the third season of Groundwaves, a six-month hip-hop open mic and mentorship program led by West Coast rapper and program mentor Murs.
Beginning in May, open mic nights will be held once per month—on Tuesdays—at The Medium; performer sign ups will begin at 5 pm with showcases beginning at 6 pm. All mentorships will take place at The Medium the following day with Murs. Mentorships are each artist’s opportunity to discuss artistic development, the business of music, and how to grow their scene.
In its second season, Groundwaves frequently moved beyond The Medium’s walls. The establishment of a program in Tulsa led to MCs from both cities traveling back and forth to perform together. Murs and the cohort of artists attended a private tour of The Dirty South: Contemporary Art, Material Culture, and the Sonic Impulse at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and also attended the Run the Jewels and Big Boi concert on the Momentary Green. Finally, several members of the cohort were invited to perform at The Happiness of Pursuit Festival in Ontario, California.
Groundwaves is free to attend and open to the public. Groundwaves Arkansas is joined by its sister programs in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Fort Collins, Colorado. The program is supported by the Tyson Family Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation. More information can be found at https://cachecreate.org/music-performance/.
