This is going to be mostly a reggae show. We’ve got talented groups Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion, The Irie Lions, and DJ HOD-I. Reggae music is MESSAGE music–conveying messages of unity, self-sufficiency and empowerment.

In response to the Maui communities affected by the wildfires, local artists Evan Diego Alvarado & Meredith Mashburn felt compelled to take action.
Why Maui?
The Maui area is tied to a documentary project that Evan and Meredith are working on together, about a convergent science project (indigenous knowledge modern science). The documentary is about the work Dr.Daniel Wildcat is leading at the Rising Voices Changing Coasts (RVCC) Hub at Haskell Indian Nations University (Lawrence, KS).

It’s important to give the Indigenous Hawaiians in Maui a chance to decide their own destiny. Indigenous communities there are growing weary of developers trying to buy their burned homes and land at a discount, while they simply want to rebuild their homes and find a way to honor their precious ancient cultural sites. This effort aims to support recovery through data collection that can help predict and prevent future fires, and sponsor data sensors to help monitor their health as they rebuild.

About The Olohana Foundation:
The Olohana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Hawaii. They work with communities to co-build resilience and adaptation strategies to climate change through projects that intersect food, energy, water, and knowledge systems. These projects include the planting of food forests and the Breadfruit/Ulu Initiative, the creation of a youth resilience council as part of the Pacific Risk Management Ohana, conservation of Hawaii National Park Service trails, and other programs and projects that support community relationship and knowledge sharing.
Olohana’s mission is to work with communities to co-develop strategies for resilience and adaptation to climate change. Their projects and programs intersect food, energy, water, and knowledge systems and facilitate and support strengthened relationships between the generations, between cultures, and with the natural environment.
Olohana and its network of partners and collaborators focus on community-led projects at the nexus of food, energy, water, and knowledge systems and support a variety of programmatic training and learning opportunities for members of the community, teaching both cutting-edge scientific and indigenous/traditional environmental stewardship systems through the methodology of Inter-generational Transfer of Knowledge ITK™.
Their method yields tangible results while facilitating the development of strong, intergenerational, intercultural, knowledge-sharing relationships and networks across the globe; and developing and strengthening a community’s disaster preparedness, resilience and longevity in the face of climate change devastation and disaster.
